THE ORIGINAL SIN
In Genesis God shows us the workings of the Devil and Adam and Eve’s spiral downward to the sin against God that has put all of mankind into the terrible fix that we have been in over the centuries.
In the Garden of Eden God told Adam what he could and couldn’t do.
Genesis 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
These are simple and basic rules but the Devil tempts Eve in Genesis chapter 3.
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
When God says subtle he means subtle. The conversation that we are reading about didn’t happen in one day. Eve never would have eaten the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil if the Devil had come up to her on day one and said God was wrong and that she should eat the fruit!. No! It took a chipping away at Eve’s stand on doing what God said to do. It took time to get her to the place that she was ready and unclear in her mind
.
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
Is that what God said? No! God said of every tree of the garden they could FREELY eat. Eve omits a word.
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
Is this what God told Adam? No, again! Eve adds “neither shall ye touch it” and then she changes what God said from “thou shalt surely die” to “lest (perhaps) ye die. By deleting a word adding words and changing a word did Eve still have “the word of God”? No she didn’t and because of that she had no footing, no foundation on which to resist the Devil. Therefore, the devil could now come out and directly contradict God’s commandment.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Who was right God or the Devil? God of course. This is how the Devil works. He keeps chipping away and pushing. A little here and a little there and pretty soon no word of God. Frankly, we have seen this happen right before our eyes. People chipping away at our freedoms and our constitution till no more freedom, no more constitution. Leadership in the pulpit giving place to the Devil and allowing him to chip away, adding doubts about the veracity of God’s Word until finally they come to the place where they don’t even believe the Title on the front of the book HOLY BIBLE.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Eve was deceived BUT Adam ate, fully knowing what God had said. He had a choice, do what God said to do or follow the advice of his wife. How many many times do people come to the same crossroads In their lives and end up turning their backs on God? It should always be God first!
The results of what Adam did were cataclysmic. First, God said in that day, that very day that Adam ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil he would surely (no doubt about it) die. The other thing that happened was that Adam transferred his authority, given by God, to rule over all of God’s creation here on earth, to the Devil.
What died on that day? To understand this you have to understand body, soul and spirit. God formed Adam of the dust of the ground, He breathed breath life into Adam and He created Adam in His own image. What is is God’s image? The Bible says that God is spirit.
Isaiah 43: 7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
Genesis 2: 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Genesis 1: 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
After that day Adam still had a body and he still had breath life but from that day on he was lacking one thing– spirit! He lost the spirit of God that was upon him on condition.
In Genesis 1:28 God gives Adam dominion over all the earth BUT in Mark chapter 4 the Devil has that authority. God never gave that authority to the Devil. So, how did he get it? Adam gave it to him by sinning against God and eating that fruit.
Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Mark 4: 8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Not until the Day of Pentecost was God’s plan revealed. The Devil thought he had won. He gained the dominion over the earth and had killed the Lord of Glory, Jesus Christ. The Devil had worked for centuries to assure himself victory but when Christ arose from the dead he redeemed us from the Devil’s grasp and sealed the fate of the Devil. The Bible says that if the Devil had only known what would happen he would never have crucified the Lord of Glory. Now everyone that confesses with his or her mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in their heart that God raised him from the dead is made whole; physically, mentally, spiritually and every other whole. That means that every born again believer has spirit from God residing in them.
I Corinthians 2: 6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Romans 10: 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Colossians 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
