LIBERTY

We are, again, about to celebrate the independence of our country. Fireworks, bar-b-ques, days at the
beach, but, have you ever stopped to think what it took to give us that freedom and what it will take for
us to keep that freedom? It is not what you think!
2 Corinthians 3:17 (KJV)
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Galatians 5:1 (KJV)
1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled
again with the yoke of bondage.
Freedom starts with God and an individual.
John 8:31-32 (KJV)
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my
disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
The growth of the truth of God’s Word in a man or woman’s heart will bring them up and out of the
bondage that they are in. Once that individual is free they can share the truth with someone else and
they, too, will experience deliverance. And so it goes until there are enough people believing in God and
the promises of God that a whole nation will be delivered.
In Deuteronomy it says that to Israel and it is even more relevant to us as sons and daughters of God
than it was to Israel.
Deuteronomy 30:1-5 (KJV)
1 And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse,
which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the
LORD thy God hath driven thee,
Due to their disobedience to God Israel would time and again go into captivity, the Book of
Judges is a prime example of this. And every time they turned back to God by going to His Word
God would deliver them and give them freedom.
2 And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I
command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;
3 That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will
return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee.
4 If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy
God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:
5 And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou
shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.Notice how God doesn’t say anything about Israel’s captors. It doesn’t matter who or what is
causing the captivity because God and one believer are more powerful than any standing army!
So, when you want liberty, when you want freedom there is only one place to go and that is to
the throne of God.
Hebrews 4:16 (KJV)
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to
help in time of need.
Proverbs 29:25 (KJV)
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
Liberty and freedom come when men and women put God first in their lives and the only way to
keep our country free is to have enough people born again of God’s spirit claiming the promises
of God.
Happy fourth of July!
