HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

What is the most important day of the year for a Christian? Is it Christmas? No. Is it Easter? No. This year
it is May 20th!
Why, you ask is it May 20th. Because, this year, May 20th is exactly fifty days since Easter or more
accurately Resurrection Sunday. May 20th this year is Pentecost! It is the birthday of the Church! It was
the first day of the outpouring of the holy spirit on believers. Since the Day of Pentecost spoken of in
Acts chapter two all who will may come and drink of the fountain of living water. That’s a fancy way of
saying those who do Romans 10:9,10 are born again, born from above, are changed from empties
floating by to filled with all the fullness of God!
John 4:13-14 (KJV)
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall
give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
John 3:3-6 (KJV)
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into
his mother’s womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he
cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
1 Peter 1:23 (KJV)
23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which
liveth and abideth for ever.
Most denominations don’t teach this because they would have to admit that there is power in the
people and speaking-in-tongues is real!
Let’s take a look at four verses in the scriptures that give the account of the first outpouring of holy
spirit.
Acts 2:1-4 (KJV)
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the
house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the
Spirit gave them utterance.
This is the only account given regarding the outpouring of holy spirit on that day. So, let’s take a
little closer look at these four verses.Acts 2:1
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
How long had the day of Pentecost been coming? Some say it started coming from Genesis 3:15
Genesis 3:15 (KJV)
15 And I (God)will put enmity between thee (the Devil) and the woman, and between thy seed and her
seed; it shall bruise thy head (he’ll, the promised seed, destroy you) , and thou shalt bruise his heel (you
shall wound him.)
But, I think it started coming even before that.
Ephesians 1:4 (KJV)
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and
without blame before him in love:
God chose us before the foundation of the world! Now, that is a long time.
Acts 2:1
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
“They “ who? The Apostles. Where is the “one place?” It was an hour of prayer these Apostles were
Judean and would be where all good Judeans, who are in Jerusalem, go at the hour of prayer and that
would be the Temple.
Acts 2:2 (KJV)
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house
where they were sitting.
This “rushing mighty wind” in one text is translated “as of a heavy breathing.”
John 20:22 (KJV)
22 And when he(Jesus) had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy
Ghost:
Jesus had taught them what to do on the Day of Pentecost.
What is “the house” it is talking about? Many have taught that it is the house with the “upper room” of
Acts 1:13, but, it isn’t.
Mark 11:15-17 (KJV)
15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold
and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that
sold doves;
16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of
prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Luke 19:45-46 (KJV)
45 And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;
46 Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.
John 2:13-17 (KJV)
13 And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep,
and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;
16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of
merchandise.
17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
The house that is mentioned in Acts 2:2 is the same house as the house of John chapter two, Mark
eleven and Luke nineteen. It is “The House” of God, the Temple.
Acts 2:3 (KJV)
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Appeared unto who? The Apostles! Fire purifies and sitting on each of them signifies completion!
The word “sat” signifies completion. For example, Jesus ascended into heaven and “sat” on the right
hand of God. When Jesus had accomplished everything he “sat.”
So, the cloven tongues like as of fire sat on who? The Apostles!
Acts 2:4 (KJV)
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the
Spirit gave them utterance.
“And they” they who? The Apostles were filled and that word “filled is the Greek word “platho”
which means filled to overflowing.
Who spoke? The Apostles, by their own freedom of will. But, what they spoke was “as the spirit
gave them utterance. Let me remind you that what they spoke were the wonderful works of God!
(Acts 2:11)
This is the first account of the outpouring of holy spirit. This is the start of the Christian Church
that is taken out of both Jew and Gentile. We are sons of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ. We are heaven bound and nothing can stop
us from going!
So, on this coming Sunday light the candles, sing Happy Birthday, thank God for His great
deliverance in your life and bask in the glory which is God in Christ in you!
