In part one of BORN AGAIN we looked at what it is to be “born again” In part two I want to look at some of the rights and privileges of being “born again” of God’s spirit.
The definition of a right is “ That to which one is morally or legally entitled. New Webster’s Dictionary and Thesaurus. Have you ever thought about that? How many things can you think of that are legally your’s when you were “born again”? I have made a list of some things that match this definition and they are;
1) Justification: Romans 5:16-18 This means that your are acquitted of all sin. Because of the new birth God has declared you NOT GUILTY.
2) Righteousness: Romans 5:19 Innocent and holy before God. If you would sit and think about this, innocent and holy before the creator of heaven and earth, the highest authority in the universe, wow.
3) Sanctification: Romans 15:16 and I Corinthians 6:11 A synonym for this word is consecration. This means that you have been set apart for a special purpose.
4) Redemption: Galatians 3:13 We have been redeemed from the curse of the Mosaic Law that Israel lived under. Look at Ephesians 1:13&14. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. The “earnest” is the down payment. When someone contracts to by a house they put down “earnest money”. We are fully redeemed when Christ comes back for the body of believers as described in Thessalonians chapter 4:13-18; 13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
5) We have the ministry of reconciliation: I Corinthians 5:18-20; 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. We were separated from God but Jesus Christ made it available to be brought back to God. Now that Jesus Christ is in heaven it is our right, privilege and responsibility to hold forth the word of life and reconcile others to God.
6) We are heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ: Romans 8:17; And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. We have a right to the inheritance promised to us. That is what heirship is about. It is getting the inheritance.
7) We have a right to a place in heaven. Look at 5 above.
8) We have a right to be forgiven of sin after we are “born again” I John 1:9. When we are “born again” God does all that is mentioned above but after that we still have an “old man” nature and we break our fellowship with God (sin). When we mess up, and everybody does, we can go to God and ask forgiveness and God does forgive us.
9) We have the right to call the Creator of heaven and earth, God, our father: Romans 8:15; 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
10) We have the right to call ourselves “ children of God”Romans 8:16 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
11) We have the right to call Jesus Christ our brother Romans 8:29.
12) We have a right to walk as super conquerors in this life. Romans 8:37 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors ( super conquerors) through him that loved us.
There are many more things that we are privileged to because we did the simplest thing We confessed with our mouths that Jesus is lord in our lives and we believed in our hearts that God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. God loves us, gave His Son for us so that we can have all of this and more. It is time that we realize who we are and what we have. When we do this we will start living life the way God wants us to and designed us to, a life of abundance and success.
