A LETTER TO ALAN MULANY AND RICK WAGONER (CEOs OF FORD AND GM)

I saw an article the other day stating that General Motors Corp. could go bankrupt. I know that Ford has been experiencing difficulties for years So, that gives me a lot of questions and a few recommendations.

I saw an article the other day stating that General Motors Corp. could go bankrupt. I know that Ford has been experiencing difficulties for years So, that gives me a lot of questions and a few recommendations.
My questions are: Why didn’t Ford and GM changed directions years ago. Are they running under the wrong paradigm? The same paradigm of a generation ago, of cheap oil and vehicles that get low fuel mileage? Yyyesss. Come on boys and girls fess up. You have haven’t you? You thought and still think that if a half ton pickup truck gets 17 miles to a gallon then it is doing good, don’t you. You all have access to the information and much more than what I am privvy to and I knew that there was an oil crunch coming four years ago why didn’t you and why didn’t you adjust for it? What is wrong with a half ton pickup that gets 30 mpg? Mid-size cars that get 50 mpg? Don’t tell me that you couldn’t do it because I guarantee you that in a few years you will be building cars and trucks with that fuel economy or better, if your companies are still around. You could do it now! Just think you would be heroes. Cut in half the consumption of the U.S. gas hogs and still deliver the same safety and comfort. What a concept!
Nope, you didn’t do it years ago when your forcasters were telling you. So now you find yourselves on the brink of backruptcy. This reminds me of the song Oh, sinner man . The lyrics ask where you gonna run to. The answer is rhetorical because we know there is no place to run, no place to hide. Wow, don’t you just hate it when that happens?
How much of that rancid CDO and Derivative paper are you holding? Anybody tell you not to go there? I bet they did.
So, what’s a Mega-corporation to do???
My recipe for getting out of your delema, if its not already to late, is take your proverbial heads out of your proverbial butts. Cheer up and remember that God makes a way where there is no way. You can change this and prosper if you turn to God and start running by the principles of God’s Word, the Bible.
My suggestion, since people will not have the money to be buying a lot of new cars in the short term is to come out with a retrofit for your trucks and cars that increases fuel economy in pickup trucks to 30 mpg and cars to 40 mpg. If you think it can’t be done then guess again. There is a company that has a conversion kit out for the 2008 Duramax diesel trucks that boost fuel economy to 30 mpg. Don’t you think that GM with all of its research capabilities could match or exceed that? Why not make retrofits for cars that are five years old or newer? Look at the potential market. Even if you made $200.00 U.S. profit for each unit multiply that by the millions of units on the road pretty soon you are talking some real money.
This is something that you could sell in a recession. This would make you heroes in the sight of everybody! Who wouldn’t like you? The government would love you. The green house gasses people would love you. The Saudis would love you because they are stuggling to keep oil production up. The American public would love you. Heroes and success all around.
Same vehicles, great fuel economy and quality, quality, quality.
Auto workers – if these guys get off their butts and take my advise – thank God. I wish you the best.
That’s the way I see it.
