THE FOUNDATIONAL PRINCIPLE OF BEING THANKFUL

We often do things without thinking because it is either habit or something that we were told to do at one time and we never questioned it. Something as simple as thanking God for the food that we eat is one of those things. Another area is thankfulness in your day to day living. To be able to apply this principle of being thankful in everything you do reaps huge results in your life.

God gives us the very air that we breath and has set this planet up for man to enjoy. I understand that the world is sometimes a harsh and unforgiving place but that is not God’s fault. He didn’t set it up that way. Adam sinned and transferred his authority to the Devil. That is why we have so many problems in this world but it is still a wonderful place to live. The point that I am trying to make is that as we recognize who God is and what He has done for us and start putting him first by being thankful and thanking God for our food before we eat we are alining our thoughts with His Word and doing the will of God. We are, also becoming more positive in our outlook on life because we start realizing what we have to be thankful for.
Colosians 3: 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Ephesians 5: 18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Colosians 1: 9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Colosians 3: 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
I Thessalonians 5: 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
I Thessalonians 5:18 doesn’t mean to be thankful for being sick if your are sick or poverty. God wants you to be thankful for the good things that you have in your life. Let’s start with the basics. Some of the things that I can think of are God’s choice in allowing me to be one of His children. Another is, that I am going to heaven and God gives me surity in that. Some times the food that is set before me is not as delicious as I would like but, I am still thankful for it. If I am in a tough situation I thank God for answers and deliverance in that situation. God may not run according to what we think he should do BUT God is never late!
Here are some records of being thankful to God for food.
Matthew 15: 34 And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.
35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.
36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
Matthew 26: 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
Mark 8: 6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.
John 6: 23 (Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:)
Acts 27: 23 (Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:)
Romans 14: 6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.
I Corinthians 10: 26 For the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.
27 If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.
28 But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that showed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof:
29 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man’s conscience?
30 For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?
31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
On this Thanksgiving day I wish you a great day of being thankful to God for all that He has made available.
100:1 A Psalm of praise. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations
